We're here to serve you
Barrington Lewis has always loved sharing his food. From his childhood home in Jamaica, to the Jamaican Boy Scouts, to catering across Bakersfield, he's connected with others over food for many years.
Now, he's turning his passion into his profession. Barrington's Jamaican Kitchen is a place where you can get to know the owner as easily as you'll fall in love with his food.
Now, he's turning his passion into his profession. Barrington's Jamaican Kitchen is a place where you can get to know the owner as easily as you'll fall in love with his food.
Born in Morant Bay, Jamaica, Barrington Anthony Lewis learned to cook by watching others. His stepmother, Miss Letty, expected dinner ready by evening, and he learned how to deliver. In school, he improved his cooking skills in programs like the Jamaican Boy Scouts and Combined Cadet Force.
Barrington became a top Triple-Jump athlete in high school, and his stellar performance got him a scholarship to Bakersfield College and the U.S. in 1983. Barrington made his mark in the U.S. track community when he placed 2nd in the 1984 Olympic Tryouts, got a full ride to Oregon State in 1985, was inducted into the BC Hall of Fame in 1991, and later became a Track and Field Coach at West High School in 2007.

He has lived in Bakersfield for 34 years and has a beautiful wife and three children. His wife, Chaunta Pierce Lewis, is a tax professional with years of experience and financial knowledge that has been critical to our success.
One daughter is out of the house, one son (that's me!) is in the Navy, and another daughter has years of adolescence ahead of her. Barrington's focus is on people: the stories they tell and the influence he can have on their lives. He loves learning about the lives of his customers when they come up to the window, and loves the smile on their faces when they find out his food is no joke. |
